Calugusan, Basilan: After the war

Calugusan, Basilan: Ante Bellum (After the war.) Rido in the culture of Islam is a blood feud between clans that can operate at many levels and intensities. It consists of periods of violence undermined in length. This is where and how society breaks down. the Rido of Calugusan existed for 12 years but the barangay was ghosted 7 years ago meaning all inhabitants left the area. In October 2019 the rido was officially ended and dozens of firearms were recovered from Calugusan and surrounding areas via brokering by the 4th special forces battalion and multiple local government agencies. The war is over and people want to return ...... so what now ? Enter #hybrid In November 2019 after a successful project in Sumisip, Basilan I was asked if i could help the Special Forces rebuild the area with food security in mind and livelihood for the returning populace. I was beyond honored to be asked to be a part of this. Nothing could prepare me for what awaited me there. When I arrived I saw a ve

How to change the world from within : The best lessons I learned before 30.

Image
By 18 I thought I knew everything and like so many before me no one could tell me anything. This is not one of those quit your job and chase your dreams spiels. This is what has worked for me if you wish to see the rest of the story and what experience I speak from visit the blog. Lesson one: Know your value in a situation and never be afraid to walk away. I learned a few things in my travels one of which is this never take yourself too seriously to the point that you are so high on yourself. Earned success through discipline is indeed rare air these days as so many of my generation lack the wherewithal or dedication to truly make themselves and  I did not make it where I am by taking the first carrot dangled in front of me. I have always been one to make my displeasure known in an untenable situation so many in this world are afraid of walking away most especially when I knew I had the crucial standing in any particular situation. Lesson two: Being a decent human cos

Tabina: Epilogue

Tabina : I really did not know what to expect going here when I got the call to do this project. The ride in was bumpy to say the least upon arriving I found a town quiet and simple in it's layout. It had a rustic charm about it little did I know what lay ahead of me or that I literally had my best work and class at hand. I was supposed to take a day off and get oriented first day but I opted to meet my class and get going. What made Tabina special is it was in effect a complete recovery of a dump site and also an educational outing and the formings of a food security stand up. What it lacks in big name stores and restaurants it makes for in charm and a plethora of wonderful people. I have wanted to quit more times doing this work than I can care to remember but the thing is for everything wrong in every project I have ever done because honestly I was done after this and I did not even in the least expect this to open doors for future projects. Tabina was the most

Chernobyl: the nuclear Pleistocene revival theory Part 1 of 2

Image
On 26 April 1986, Reactor No. 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded after tests were done on the reactor improperly and the operators lost control. Chernobyl city was evacuated soon after the disaster. The base of operations for the administration and monitoring of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone was moved from Pripyat to Chernobyl. Chernobyl currently contains offices for the State Agency of Ukraine on the Exclusion Zone Management and accommodations for visitors. Apartment blocks have been repurposed as accommodations for employees of the State Agency. The length of time that workers may spend within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is restricted by regulations that have been implemented to limit exposure to radiation. The city has become overgrown and many types of animals live there. In fact, according to census information that was collected over an extended period of time, it is estimated that more mammals live there now than before the disaster. In 2003, the U

Climate Change : So where does the Philippines fall in all of this chaos ? part 2 of 2

Image
As it sits now : According to Philstar, Green Peace and a few other sources the Philippines is at current  the 3rd worst ocean polluter in the world behind Indonesia and China  which are adjacent which is not a good look for the surrounding water eco system. Air pollution does not seem to see the Philippines fare much better with 4,000 deaths annually  from air quality issues . Ermita is on par for the worst due to it's open dump sites. Now given that the Philippines is  considered by many global corporations such as Proctor and Gamble  as a consumer society the wanton usage of disposable plastic with flagrant disregard for the environment coupled with by many a complete lack of discipline for littering or willingness to segregate waste spells disaster . The Philippines historically throughout climate cataclysms : (Photo is map of pleistocene era Philippines.) The Philippines is a country of Southeast Asia, with its 7,107 islands strewn over the Western Paci

Climate Change : Where did we go wrong ? How did we get here ? Part 1 of 2

To know where and what we are headed for first we must acknowledge the past. It really was not that long ago that we had eco systems that could support 20 meter long sharks (Megalodon) and 15 foot humanoid like apes that walked on two legs (Gigantopithecus Blacki it was real look it up.) We are not quite talking Jurassic Park level shit here but it is definitely not what you would see today. The Pleistocene (Ice Age)  was the geological epoch which lasted from 2,588,000 to 11,700 years ago, Spanning the world's most recent period of repeated glaciations. In layman's terms after the freeze the world had time to heal itself and begin anew and the ecosystem itself could support these gigantic animals. Fair enough because there were not humans as an invasive species then  shitting on the planet with flagrant disregard for all. To grasp an idea of the numbers and what really happened The Pleistocene saw the age of the mega fauna and a bio diversity the likes of no ot
